A Few Truths About Introverts
When I posted my first piece on being an introvert, it got more comments than any other subject I blogged about.
All of a sudden I wasn’t alone, and comments from friends I had no idea considered themselves Introverts flooded my post.
So many people said it helped them and they thanked me for posting something so relatable. They felt seen, heard and felt.
Now two and half years into this, I’ve found a great community of people who get me and understand the ups and downs of being an introvert.
I thought it would be cool to do a post stating a few truths about introverts, straight from the mouths of other introverts.
These are statements and truths I’ve gathered from my introvert friends on some of my Introvert posts.
When people ask why we’re so quiet
< People that ask this would be offended if the introverts asked them why they talk so much. >
< Why do you have to fill all the silences? >
I don’t waste words
< We talk, when we have something to say. >
Introverts and Parties/Social Gatherings
< Invite me… I don’t want to come but invite me. >
< Don’t invite me. Just only invite me to the one on one. >
Sometimes I don’t want to be invited because the anxiety it causes by saying I’m not coming will haunt me.
< If you invite me then I have to make up an excuse for not going. >
< Invite me but let me say no. And don’t take my no personal. >
Introverts and surprises
< I hate surprises. >
< I don’t mind surprises, as long as it doesn’t involve a large group. And there’s no expectations involved. >
Introverts on accepting ourselves
< I love that I’m an introvert. >
< I’m great being an introvert. >
< Being an Introvert is an awesome thing… I wouldn’t want it any other way. >
I prefer being alone. I also prefer to socialize with one select person at a time. I don’t need a group gathering.
On how often we need alone time
Depends on how draining the event is. The bigger the drain, the more time is needed to recharge
< Normally a few moments throughout the day, intentional alone time for a few hours at least twice a week. When I’ve peopled too much I need a whole “do nothing” day. >
< Multiple times a day. >
< After every social function. >
< I never want to be around people. >
An Introvert’s greatest need
< Alone time. >
< Time to recharge. >
Restorative solitude.
< Not to be questioned when I’m in an alone mood, it’s usually not personal. >
There’s so much more
There is so much more to being an Introvert, but I thought it would be nice to see some common truths among all of us Innies.
Just kinda helps to remind you that you’re not alone, ya know?
