Fascinating Summer Solo Activities for Introverts

Summer Solo Activities Introverts Would Love

It’s not always easy for us to find things to do when many of us are serial homebodies, so I wanted to come up with a list of awesome solo Summer activities for Introverts.

We enjoy our time alone and often use it to recharge and re-set from the daily business of life and quite frankly, from being around other people.

Now that Summer is here, I think it’s so important to take advantage of the longer days and shorter nights with some activities outside of the house.

Even Introverts can benefit from the change in scenery and fresh summertime air.

I’ve learned I benefit greatly from the outdoors, for my own self-care and mental health.  I love to see green grassy fields, large lush trees, and one of my happy places is a large body of water.

I love the ocean, but I’ve discovered it doesn’t even need to be the ocean specifically.  It can be a river, a lake or even a pond.

Below are some ideas for solo Summer activities for Introverts.  Now, obviously they can be modified to include people, however if you’re just not in the mood for people-ing, these are great!

Solo Picnic at the Park

Nuff said, right?  Pack a lunch (or stop and get take-out from your favorite spot), grab a blanket or a lawn chair (I have 2 of these and they’re pretty amazing) and head over to a nice outdoor area with great aesthetics.

It can be a nice grassy park, a lake or river, or you can just utilize a picnic table.  Whatever you like best!

Local Hiking Trails

It hasn’t been until recently that I remembered how much I enjoy nature walks outdoors.

If you’ve never been to one and you think you don’t have any near you, think again.  More than likely you have some right near where you live!

It may take a little bit of a Google search, but I’m almost sure you’ll find some.

For my ladies, it may be a good idea to at least bring one friend with you for safety reasons.  It’s a great way to catch up with a good girlfriend!  (Winking to my sister-friend if she reads this. ♥)

Go for a drive alone

You don’t have to go far, or maybe you’d like to!  It’s totally up to you.  Take a summertime drive with the windows down and enjoy the fresh air.

You can drive to a destination and take the scenic route, or just head out for an adventure without a plan.  Just be sure to top off your gas tank first!

Catch up on some reading

As a busy Mom and wife, I don’t read nearly as much as I’d like to.  So my favorite (and only) magazine subscription “Real Simple,” is collecting dust as we speak.

When I have some downtime, there’s nothing like being able to play catch up with it.

You can bring your books to an outdoor destination, a park or festival, or you can even just sit in your car a few minutes on your way to or from somewhere.

Staycation at Home

You don’t necessarily have to physically leave your home and go on vacation in order to enjoy the outdoors.  Or even book a hotel in you city.

If you’re able to book a local hotel, that’s always nice.  But there’s nothing wrong with a good old staycation, right where you live.

Utilize your own backyard, porch or deck.  Watch movies on your laptop, read a book, do something relaxing that you love to do that doesn’t involve work right in the comfort of your own backyard.

Visit an Outdoor market or festival

No matter where you live, there is almost always an outdoor market or festival you can visit.  Check your local area and visit on a nice warm day.

Here in Detroit we have Art and Music Festivals galore all summer long.  There’s probably not a weekend where there isn’t some type of festival happening.

Check one out and just roam freely around and see the sights! Bring your comfy walking shoes.

Walk around your Downtown area and check out local shops

Visit the Downtown area of your city, and check out some of your local shops!

I love being able to discover and support local businesses when I can, and the summertime is a great time to do that.

Get into your favorite hobby

If you’ve got an outdoor hobby, now is a great time to really indulge.

Maybe you’ve got a serious green thumb so you’re into gardening.  Or maybe you’re into outdoor yoga.

Take advantage of this beautiful summer weather and get into some outdoor hobbies!  If you need ideas for hobbies, check these out.

Ride a bike

Summertime is a great time to go bike riding.  Take a short ride around your neighborhood, or head to a state park and take advantage of their beautiful bike trails.

Be sure to give your bike a good tune-up before you head out.

Visit a winery

Wineries and wine tastings are a lot more popular these days than they used to be.  Depending on where you live, you may be a hop, skip and a jump away from an amazing winery.

I’m in Michigan, and our most popular wineries are located up north in Traverse City.  My Hubby and I visited for the first time a few years ago and there are some really nice ones there.

You can grab a taste of your wine of choice and sit outdoors while overlooking miles of breathtaking vineyards.

Museum or outdoor art exhibit

Check and see if your local museums or municipal city centers have outdoor summer art exhibits.  I’m almost positive you will find some.

You do have to seek them out, but many cities have a huge appreciation for artistic expression these days and are happy to display the art of local artists.

Take a boat ride

If you live in an area where you can take advantage of a boat ride, definitely check it out!

Here in Detroit, we have boat tours you can take up and down the Detroit River.  They’re great because it allows you to see the city in a different way!

And it’s so relaxing riding on the water.

Sit on your porch and enjoy the breeze

What if you just didn’t go anywhere at all?  You can step right onto your porch or balcony, cop a squat or grab a chair and sit and enjoy the breeze.

People watch, scroll your phone, or just sit and rest your mind.

Concluding thoughts about summer activities for introverts

Of course many of these activities can be done with large groups of people, or just a couple friends.

However I wanted to provide a list of things that could be done whether you felt like being around people, or you’d rather just be your full on Introvert self and go alone.

Tell me some outdoor activities you enjoy in the comments!
