Have you learned that different circumstances require lots of recharge time?
Years ago I attended a concert with a good friend of mine. John Legend had just released a new project and he was on tour, so he made a stop in Detroit. The concert was at the Fox Downtown, and I’d never been there so I was pretty excited.
The way the Fox is set up, there aren’t many bad seats, even if you’re in the very back. We had floor seats towards the back, and we were also underneath the balcony, which meant there was a low hanging ceiling over us.
There were some really spirited (and probably drunk) fans sitting right behind us, screaming like their lives depended on it the whole entire concert. And being that we were under a low ceiling, it amplified the sounds of their screams to the max.
OMG I was so triggered!
The screams bothered me so much that it was sometimes hard to enjoy the concert. I must’ve made a few comments about it because I remember my friend saying, “Hey we’re at a concert, it’s what people do!” Shrugs.
Now that I understand myself a lot more, I realize what was happening. Extremely loud, obnoxious and/or droning sounds bug me like crazy and drain my energy. I can’t stand it!
Needless to say by the time I got home, I was spent. I enjoy the music and the excitement of the crowd, however I now understand that concerts drain me completely. I need lots of time to recharge.
