40 Amazing Creative Outlets and Hobbies for Introverts
If you’re looking for hobbies for introverts, you’ve come to the right place!
There are endless possibilities of things you can try, and I’ve compiled a list to get you started with some ideas.
A Little Bit of My Hobby Story
Put my face on the billboard for moody teens, because I was the moody teen queen.
I was pretty terrible.
Not really to my friends, but to my loved ones and family at home. Looking back on some of those cringy times is so hard.
Obviously I didn’t intentionally want to hurt my family. However, the rage of my teenage hormones made it difficult to control my emotions.
Unfortunately because you know your loved ones are always there, it can be easy to unload all of who you really are without thinking about how that affects them.
Empathy wasn’t really a well developed trait for me until way after college. And truth be told, I’m still working on this trait now!
Albeit I hope I’ve gotten somewhat better with time.
Home Life as a Moody Introvert Teen
I spent goo-gobs of time alone in my room.
My little sister would knock on my bedroom door and most times I didn’t even answer her.
I’d practice my piano lesson and get weird if my Dad came to check on me. I’d get an attitude because I wanted to be alone.
In my home life, as a teen, the only time I wasn’t in my bedroom was daily dinner time (we ate at the dinner table as a family), pizza night Fridays where we watched Friday night TV together, and during Saturday family house chores. That’s it!
I was so completely sensitive to any and everyone, and I didn’t understand myself. I just wanted to be alone at home.
My teenage years were so frustrating. High School was so annoying to me and I couldn’t stand the immaturity of boys.
What Helped Me Most Growing Up as an Introvert
I found the most contentment writing poems, journaling and writing songs on the piano. Nothing brought me peace like having a place to put all my frustration and confusion. My thoughts would be knotted up like a big tangled ball of mixed up yarn.
Until I took my thoughts to pen and paper.
I’d write about stupid John who gave me mixed signals of wanting to date me and not. He’d call me on the phone and then barely speak to me at school.
I’d write about Jane, a good friend who’s sort of ex-guy she used to talk to but wasn’t quite her boyfriend showed interest in me. Was I supposed to not talk to him because he used to talk to my friend? Even though they weren’t really a couple? Was I even interested in him at all?
Journaling gave me a place to set it all down.
Writing songs gave me something to focus on and creatively express feelings I had.
Having a creative outlet got me through some of the most confusing times as a teenager trying to figure it all out.
What is a hobby?
A hobby is something you do in your own personal spare time, for your own enjoyment.
Generally they don’t involve other people. It’s something you can do by yourself.
There are hobbies you can do for fun, like putting together puzzles.
Hobbies you can do that turn into gifts for other people like crocheting, diy home projects or drawing.
Hobbies you can do that will only be seen by you for your enjoyment, like scrapbooking or making model planes.
Usually it’s something you create or do with your hands. You’re making something that came from your own brain, your own efforts.
What do hobbies do for you?
A quick walk through Hobby Lobby or Michael’s will show you that the means through which creativity can be expressed are endless. There are so many things you can do to be creative, it’s impossible for me to cover them all.
Hobbies are wonderful for introverts.
They give us a place to put our careful, pointed intention. They provide a way for us to use our gift of focus and attention.
A way to be quiet and attentive in peaceful solitude.
They give us a place to put all of the many, many things that constantly swirl around in our heads throughout the day. The thoughts that always dig a little too deep and send us reeling into an abyss of what if, why not and how.
A place to rest them.
They provide a respite, a comfort and ease.
And when the project we’ve been working on is finally finished, we have the sweet relief of knowing our time was well spent.
Do some digging and find something to do with your hands that you enjoy!

I love this! I don’t think enough people have hobbies and do things just for fun. We’re always trying to be productive and turn everything into a side hustle! It’s okay to do things just for yourself!
Soo true Kelsey! Thanks for your input 🙂
Yes yes yes! Awesome list. I’m so an introvert too. I can stay home all day and craft and be so content. I never think to do anything else. My favourite hobby was quilting and then I made a blog about it. Funny what us introverts get into. 🤗
I know right?? Oh wow, very cool! I pick up crocheting almost every year during the winter. All of a sudden I’m inspired to crochet hats, scarves and fingerless gloves!😊
Ummmm yes girl ! Introvert all the way. Thanks for the inspiration!

As a former introvert, today an extrovert I can say that perhaps if I had started in this way it would have been less traumatic. Great advice!
Thank you Cristina!
