8 Phenomenal Ways to Cope With Social Distancing While Quarantined or Staying In

Truthfully?ย  I don’t want to talk about this.

I’ve been avoiding addressing this subject on social media.

I don’t think we really realize what’s really going on right now.ย  The fact is that we’re living through the biggest pandemic of my generation.

The level of disregard, and nonchalant attitudes by people not taking necessary precautions is heartbreaking.

Fact is, I don’t want this virus, I don’t want my loved ones to get it, and I don’t want you to get it either.

It’s crazy because it’s like the plagues we would study about in Sunday School at church growing up, or with my Dad in our home Bible studies.ย  Where Pharaoh and Moses battled it out with God.ย  And because of Pharaoh’s rebellion, God sent locusts, and caused three days of darkness, and inflicted all types of plagues on Egypt.ย  We’re going through one of these right now, can you imagine 10?

This is Bible times type stuff we’re living in right now.

So with that said, this is how I’m coping with social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis.

1. Psalms 91, Psalms 91, Psalms 91

This is the ultimate Psalm for the days we’re living through.ย  I wrote this Psalm out with pretty colored pens and posted it on our wall.ย  I texted it to my husband and my friends.ย  I’ve been meditating on it, and whenever I feel afraid, I think on it.ย  One of my favorite passages is this one:

9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

2. Finish unfinished projects

I had been needing to do some organizing of our paperwork, like our bills, receipts, those types of things.ย  So I was finally able to do that, as it had be pilling up for longer than I care to admit.

3. Use a creative outlet

I’m a journaler so I’m trying to make it a point to write in my journal more right now.ย  It helps me to get things out that may be bottled up inside.

I sat at the keyboard yesterday and just played a little.ย  Nothing complicated or anything, just tinkered around.ย  I’d love to be able to say I’ve been writing up a storm of songs but, nah.ย  Right now I’m just taking it one day at a time, trying not to pressure myself to be creative.

There are so many things you can do.ย  Paint, draw, color, write, scrapbooking, this is a great time to try something new!ย  Maybe even start a blog if that’s something you’ve thought about doing!

4. Watch a happy movie

A few nights ago we watched Imagine That with Eddie Murphy and Yara Shahidi (Blackish) on Netflix.ย  I don’t watch movies like I used to, so it was great to do that, and it was safe to watch with our toddler there.

5. Video call your loved ones

Thanks to Facebook messenger, I’ve been able to video chat my loved ones and friends, and it’s been a tremendous blessing right now.ย  Yes, I’m an introvert, but even introverts can miss social interaction with the special people in our lives.

6. Keep your mind occupied

Read a book, whether physical or audio.ย  I have quite a few books I’d love to sit down and read, but I’ve been doing more audio books these days.

Fill your mind with positive thoughts.

Listen to music that inspires you and makes you happy.ย  Keep a stream of happy songs going in your head if you can’t think of something good.ย  Joyce Meyer says think about what you’re thinking about!ย  And make sure you’re thinking good things.

7. Self Care

I’m not a healthcare professional so that’s not my area of expertise.ย  But I will say, make sure you’re taking care of yourself, over all.ย  Mentally AND physically.ย  Take your vitamins.ย  Eat grains and fruits.ย  Drink water.

If you need to cry, it’s okay to cry.ย  Don’t stay down in the dumps though, but it’s okay to release emotions.

In fact I had a cry the other day, just overwhelmed with emotions I didn’t know were there.ย  It’s okay.ย  Just make sure you do the things that pick up your spirits too.

Physical exercise is important as well, but I’m not the best example to follow to be honest.ย  I’m very physical and busy around the house all day though, cooking, cleaning, walking up and down the stairs and chasing our toddler.

I take him outside to get some natural vitamin D from the sun and some fresh air.ย  It helps him so much because he can get really cranky sometimes.

I’m very cautious about being outside though because the CDC isn’t saying this virus is airborne, but I have my suspicions.ย  I feel okay as long as there are no other people around.

Light a scented candle and open a window.ย  Let some fresh air in your home.ย  It’s still a little chilly, but I just do it for a few minutes.ย  The air inside can get stale, so it refreshes my home when I do just these two simple things.

8. Know that God has us

I’ll always remember a conversation I had with a special person in my life.ย  My aunt whom I also consider a mentor, she was giving me a heart to heart about confronting some false ideals I had in my head about marriage.

She explained that once you get married, God doesn’t pluck you out of His hand and put you in your Husband’s hands.ย  That’s not how this works.

God never stops taking care of you.

He’s taken care of you before you got married, He’ll take care of you after.

So I’ll leave you with that.ย  God never stops taking care of you, my friend.

He has you.

Just because we’re in a pandemic, it doesn’t mean that God doesn’t love us anymore and he’s punishing us. NO.

God has you.ย  ย Trust Him by fighting for your family.ย  Speak the scriptures from Psalms 91, and believe and know that because you trust in Him,

NO PLAGUE WILL COME NEAR YOUR DWELLING.

I’m not a preacher, so I hope this doesn’t sound too preachy.ย  My heart is always to help, encourage and uplift.ย  So I hope and pray this helps you today.

By the way, here is a great article from the CDC regarding prevention of Coronavirus: Prevention of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

How are you coping?ย  What you doing to maintain your peace in this time?

Wishing you sooo much love, peace, and joy today, and every single day,

  1. These are some great tips! I know right now it can be super hard to understand what is going on. I know I am personally having trouble with having to stay home and away from loved ones but these are great tips! Thank you!

    1. Omg it’s so hard being away from loved ones, I miss seeing them live and in person so much. I Keep reminding myself that this too shall pass and I keep trying to stay busy. Thanks for reading Katelynn, I know we’ll make it through this, one day at a time. โค

  2. #8 is the most important. I love what your aunt told you about God always having us. It’s true. And I also like how you said you were no expert about self care, and then share some real, practical self care. I enjoyed this post, you are open and honest and that comes through in your writing.

    1. Wow Ellen, thank you so much for your feedback! I really try to be honest. I’m generally a very private person, but if I feel like something may help others, I try my hardest to share.๐Ÿ˜Š

    1. Wow Xenia, I’d never heard of colostrum and lactoferrin as supplements! Of course I knew how colostrum helps babies (I nursed my little one for one year), but not in adults. Thanks for sharing!

  3. #8 is the best! Know that God has us! HE has all of this and already knows the outcome….and best of al is that we already know the very end of the story too!!! He wins!

  4. Great read! It can be hard to keep faith and look at the bright side during times like these. Thanks for the great ideas and reminder that god is protecting us.
